What is River of Life?
River of Life provides an opportunity for youth to become involved in a mission experience. It is designed to offer participants an opportunity for spiritual growth and Christian fellowship while serving the needs of the elderly, handicapped, and economically disadvantaged citizens of Paulding County. We invite your group to participate in this life-changing event. The physical, emotional and spiritual growth that accompanies the long weekend is a blessing to all youth, leaders and clients.
The typical day begins with breakfast in the Family Life Center (FLC) at Dallas First Methodist. After prayer, work teams go out to fulfill their assigned tasks. These can include painting, building wheelchair ramps and porches, repairing roofs and some yard work. The assignments are coordinated to include time for the physical job as well as time for sharing and fellowship between team members and those being served.
Everyone will shower at the local high school. Work teams are asked to arrive between 3:00 and 4:00 at PCHS to shower. Team members will not go back to our church before showering. Therefore, each morning as they leave for their work site, they should pack a small bag, backpack, etc., with clothes for the evening as well as shower necessities (toiletries, towel, washcloth, hairdryer, etc.). After showering, they will be shuttled back to First Methodist to enjoy a time of recreation, relaxation and fellowship before supper. The evening schedule includes praise and worship, a speaker, other fun, and snacks.
Why Come?
River of Life gives each participant the opportunity to experience Christian love in action through unselfishly serving others who are in need. Jesus said, “Whatever you do unto the least of these, you do unto Me.” The bonds of friendship, service and love formed during this time will be a source of growth, strength and warm memories that will last long after the last nail is nailed and the last paintbrush is cleaned. What better way is there to spend a small part of your summer?
